Uploading image
It is wanted to illustrate articles with images. If you want to insert the image into your article, you must be logged in. Than can you upload the image into Wikilectures server.
First option:
- Click on link Upload file in left toolbox
- On page Upload image click on button Procházet (Browse) and select image.
- To gap Destination filename fill the suitable name of the image and image format JPEG for photographic images, SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps and flags, PNG format for software screenshots. The image will be used in Wikilectures many times and it is better if the image has simple and suitable name e.g. Structure of Hem is better than IMG120907_Hb.jpg.
- In the next step fill the description of image – short summary what you can see in the picture
- Into gap Source fill source from which you got the image. It could be book, journal or web page. If it is your own work check the Own work. After this will some of the gaps filled please do not change the filled gaps.
- Into gap Author fill the author name – if you check the Own work this gap will be already filled with your sign (~~~).
- Filling the following two gaps is optional
- Date – in format YYYY-MM-DD
- Licensing – choose the appropriate license
- In category gap fill the categories separated with coma into that you want put the image. Here you can see list of categories. In case you left category gap empty the image will be put into the category uncategorized files.
- Then press button upload file. If you left some important gaps empty – the warning appears and the uploading would be stopped and you can complete missing information. Uploading image could take sometime. Be patient and wait till the next page appears.
Second option:
- create a article and make link to (non-existent) image. To place you want to insert the file add syntax [[Image:Image name | parameters | title]] than save the article – instead of the image there will be red link – Image:Image name
- click on this link that brigs you to a Upload file page – than is the procedure same as in the above-mentioned article
Uploading new version of image
To upload new versions of existing image click on the Upload a new version of this file in the file page. You must fill in the form similar to the uploading form. Click on the Procházet (Browse) button select image and describe changes to the summary.
Inserting image into the article
In place you want to insert the image add this syntax
[[Image:Image name | parameters | title]]
As image name use the name you entered by uploading image to the server. Don´t forget the image format (.jpg, .png)
Following parameters aren’t obligatory. You write it behind the vertical bar | (right alt + W)
The second "thumb" parameter forces the creation of a thumbnail or image placement.
- right
- on the right side of the text;
- left
- on the left side of the text;
- center
- in center of the page;
- width in pixel (e.g. 150px)
- image will be resized to set width;
- thumb
- appears image as a thumb on right side of text (standard width 180px);
- if you want to place it to the center or left side add parameter
center
orleft
; - full sized image you can display by clicking on the thumb;
- if you want to place it to the center or left side add parameter
Image caption is the text that appears by aiming the cursor at the image. Aiming at thumb displays the caption below the thumb.
Example
The image name is ekg.jpg you want to place it to the right side of the text 200 pixels width with image caption Physiological EKG.

Image properties
You should upload only high quality images. Use JPEG format for photographic images with maximal size 600×800, PNG format for logos, drawings, maps and flags.
Copyrights, Author law
Be careful with copyrights. It is better to use your own images. In case of using other image than yours – don’t forget to fill all the gaps and select appropriate license. See also author law page.
