Preparation 1
Name: Peripheral nerve in the neurovascular bundle (HE)
Description: 1 – fascicles of nerve fibers enveloped in perineurium (2), 3 - artery in the endoneurial space (in the space surrounded by the perineurium), 4 - accompanying vessel - artery, 5 - surrounding fatty tissue
Preparation 2
Name: Peripheral nerve in clear magnification - section from the previous preparation (HE)
Description: 1 - perineurium, 2 – continuation of the perineurium as a fibrous septum bringing vessels (3), 3 – vessels in the endoneurial space, 4 - the nuclei belong to either Schwann cells (forming myelin) or fibroblasts (forming a ligament, in this case the ligament of the endoneurium )
Preparation 3
Name: Peripheral nerve (AZAN)
Description: 1 – epineurium, 2 - perineurium, 3 – jádra patří buď Schwannovým buňkám (tvoří myelin) the nuclei belong to either Schwann cells (forming myelin) or fibroblasts (forming a ligament, 4 – blood vessel
note: in the AZAN method, nuclei are stained red, ligament/collagen blue
Preparation 4
Name: Peripheral nerve - clear magnification (Weigert van Gieson)
Description: 1 - epineurium, 2 - perineurium, 3 - the faint yellow areas correspond to the cytoplasm of axons and are wider than the diameter of the axon by the thickness of the myelin sheath (fat), which was dissolved by processing the specimen,
note: staining by Weigert van Gieson distinguishes ligament/collagen (red), muscle and cytoplasm (yellow, although muscle is not present in this specimen)
Preparation 5
Name: Peripheral nerve - detail of the previous preparation (Weigert van Gieson)
Description: 1 - perineurium, 2 - endoneurium, 3 – the faint yellow areas correspond to the cytoplasm of axons and are wider than the diameter of the axon by the thickness of the myelin sheath (fat), which was dissolved by processing the specimen, 4 – nuclei (grey-black in the Weigert van Gieson method) belong to either Schwann cells (form myelin) or fibroblasts (form ligament)
Preparation 6
Name: Peripheral nerve - detail (Heidenhain's iron hematoxylin) Description: 1 - fascicle of myelinated nerve fibers, 2 - perineurium, 3 - myelin sheaths (black), 4 - blood vessels, 5 - skeletal muscle on a transverse section
