= subvital

Designation of a gene (genotype) that reduces the number of offspring in the next generation.

Mechanism:

  • clinical: some individuals die in reproductive age (e.g. hemophilia )
  • genetic: reducing the likelihood of reproduction (e.g. chondrodystrophy )
