A haplotype is a group of genes (loci) that are in linkage and are hence preferentially passed together from parents to offspring. The International HapMap Project is devoted to systematic mapping of the haplotype structure of the human genome.

Schematic representation of a haplotype. In the example above, the individual carries two haplotypes: AbC and aBC, while the genotype is AaBbCC.
