Intercross is the name for mutual crossing of individuals of the first filial (F1) generation , which gives rise to the second filial (F2) generation. Gene linkage can also be evaluated within the F2 generation ; the advantage is that the crossing-over already took place within the previous (F1) generation. Linkage analysis in intercrosses is advantageous, for example, for the analysis of codominant alleles.
