Colon polyposis with concomitant finding of osteomas and fibromatosis. Caused by a mutation in the APC gene (5q21; OMIM: 611731 ).
It is characterized by the presence of a large number of adenomas in the colonic mucosa (over 100), the size of which varies from small dimensions to 3 cm. They appear around the age of 25 and over the next 10-15 years, almost 100% of them develop cancer, sometimes multiple. Similar to adenomatous familial polyposis, in which, however, osteomas and fibromatoses do not form.
