Toxoinfectious encephalopathy is a disorder of the nervous system during infection in the body. However, the ongoing infection does not affect the nervous system and encephalopathy then arises as a result of:
- action of bacterial toxins,
- CNS vascular supply disorder (lack of oxygen or glucose),
- metabolic disruption of the internal environment (eg hepatic encephalopathy).
