Acidosis (signpost)

Acidosis is a disorder of acid-base balance in which the pH falls below the physiological limit (the physiological value of pH is 7.36-7.44).
- Respiratory acidosis – caused by accumulation of CO2 in the body (e.g. during hypoventilation).
- Metabolic acidosis – occurs when H+ accumulates, insufficient excretion of H+ or excessive losses of HCO3- (eg diarrhea).
