Anatoxin

Anatoxin or toxoid s an artificially modified bacterial exotoxin that is used for vaccination.

Toxicity, the harmful effects of the substance is reduced, suppressed. However, the antigenicity is retained, so that the substance is able to induce the production of specific antibodies, which protects against the effects of natural harmful toxins entering the body during infection.

One of the best known is the toxoid of diphtheria and tetanus.
