Arthroscopy
From WikiLectures
Arthroscopy (abbreviated as ASK) is an endoscopic diagnostic, and simultaneously a therapeutic, method used for joint diseases and injuries (most often knee joint and shoulder joint).
Principle[edit | edit source]
- The joint is filled with a sterile solution and after the introduction of the endoscope, it is possible to examine and treat the joint cavity.
- Advantages: mini-invasive method, less postoperative pain, faster rehabilitation.
- Disadvantages: price, erudition.
Usage[edit | edit source]
- diagnostics (biopsy, hemarthrosis);
- extraction of joint muscles, débridement;
- treatment of articular cartilage;
- meniscectomy (mostly partial);
- meniscal suture;
- removal of adhesions, joint folds;
- synovectomy (rheumatology);
- fixation of dissections in dissecting osteochondrosis;
- acromioplasty and subacromial decompression for impingement syndrome.
