Benign kidney tumors
From WikiLectures
Benign kidney tumors are rare. They include:
- angiomyolipoma ,
- hamartoma ,
- fibroma ,
- hemangioma ,
- leiomyoma ,
- adenoma up to 3 cm in diameter,
- oncocytoma (variant of adenoma growing from interspersed cells of the collecting ducts) − has a spherical shape and does not metastasize. It is often asymptomatic. The biggest problem is the impossibility of histological differentiation from chromophobe kidney cancer, which is why nephrectomy is recommended.
The biological nature of adenoma and oncocytoma is uncertain. The biological nature of an angiomyolipoma is benign, but there is a risk of rupture and associated massive bleeding. For these, an operative solution is recommended.
