Brain edema, BBB disorders / repetitorium
From WikiLectures
Prerequisites and co-requisites: tissue fluid production, HEB permeability, paraventricular organs.
Edema[edit | edit source]
Fluid accumulation in the brain - increase in brain volume - due to the pressure-volume curve increase in intracranial pressure
Classification
- vasogenic
- cytotoxic
- osmotic
- hydrostatic
- ischemic (combination of vasogenic and cytotoxic)
Consequences - intracranial hypertension - restriction of blood flow to the brain! Symptoms identical to intracranial hypertension.
BBB[edit | edit source]
- Development during life (newborns)
- Disorders - inflammation, ischemia, radiation
- Increasing system pressure
- ECT osmolality changes (water poisoning)
- Drug permeability (ATB, dopamine)
