Bronchiectasis (Internal Propedeutics)

Bronchiectastis is a term used for abnormally widened bronchi.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Lumen of bronchi is widened, secretions are accumulated in bronchi – expectoration of purulent sputum, mainly in the morning.
Types[edit | edit source]
According to presence:
- local;
- diffuse.
According to its content:
- emptied;
- filled by secretions.
According to its origin:
- acquired (most of them);
- hereditary.
Percussion[edit | edit source]
- Resonant (when emptied);
- Dull of thudlike (when secretions is present).
Auscultation[edit | edit source]
- Vesicular respiration;
- scattered wet crackels localized over lower lung lobes.
Diagnosis is affirmed by bronchography.
