CURB-65

CURB-65 is a score to assess the clinical severity of pneumonia . It is based on the original CURB score, newly supplemented by an age factor.

Meaning[edit | edit source]

  • C onfusion (confusion) newly formed;
  • U rea (blood level) above 7 mmol / l;
  • R inspiratory frequency 30 / min or higher;
  • B lood pressure (blood pressure) below 90 mmHg systolic or below 60 mmHg diastolic;
  • 65 or older.

Each of the components is evaluated by one point, which are added up in the result. Therefore, the score can take values ​​of 0-5 points.

Interpretation[edit | edit source]

The score indicates the risk of the patient's death within 30 days according to the number of points.

  • 0 points - 0.7%
  • 1 points - 3.2%
  • 2 points - 3.0%
  • 3 points - 17.0%
  • 4 points - 41.5%
  • 5 points - 57.0%

Recommended clinical approach based on the number of points[edit | edit source]

  • 0−1 - outpatient treatment
  • 2-3 - short hospitalization, or outpatient procedure with the possibility of frequent inspections
  • 4−5 - therapy during hospitalization, possibly also in the intensive care unit
