Chlorhexidine structure

Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial substance with a broad antimicrobial spectrum against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

It is used to disinfect the skin and mucous membranes, it is part of mouthwashes, etc.

Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride is only slightly soluble in water, while digluconate (Synonym: bis-(D-gluconate)) is highly soluble in water. Therefore, digluconate is used more often in solutions.
