Dr. Sumita Sofat
Dr. Sumita Sofat is a well-known Gynaecology from India who has been serving the nation since the last 18 years. She has carved a niche for herself in the field of infertility. She has made a difference to the lives of millions of childless couples who were rendered hopeless after knocking the doors of many well-known clinics but not receiving any ‘good news' even after going under numerous procedures and spending a massive amount of money. Dr. Sofat is known for her high moral principles, paramount skills as an infertility specialist and premium personal care of her esteemed patients. She is known to have solved the most complicated cases of infertility.
Education and career[edit | edit source]
Dr. Sofat's illustrious medical career began at one of the medical institutes in Patiala. She acquired her medical degree at Government Medical College, Patiala. She acquired further education at Ludhiana. She earned her post graduation degree in Gynecology from Dayanand Medical College & Hospital Ludhiana. Dr. Sumita Sofat has been serving in the field of infertility since the past eighteen years. She has done the city proud by initiating the Sofat Infertility and Women Care Centre as a director of this IVFcentre in India. She is also accredited with the inception of Sofat Diagnostics and Cancer Detection Centre in Ludhiana. She heads the fertility team at the well known Siddhartha hospital. It will not be an exaggeration to say that she has played a primary role in the field of infertility in Punjab. She has significantly contributed to the field on IVF and ICSI and the use of ARP in Punjab. It is due to her professional and personal dedication that the techniques of IVF and ICSI have been popularised in Punjab. She is also accredited with the conduction of various training workshops on infertility at the national and global level. She is akin to an angel for many couples have seen the faces of their biological children with her treatment.

Dr.Sumita Sofat belongs to a highly educated family. She has kept up the trend set by her guardians. She was born on 4th October 1969 in Patiala. Her father Rajinder Kumar Bedi retired after giving valuable service as a senior zonal manager with L.I.C while her mother chose to be a housewife. Nobody from her family was in the medical profession. She wanted to do something out of the league, that is why she opted for the medical line. She scored an excellent score in the medical entrance examination and got enrolled in the government college of Patiala. She went on to do her post-graduation from the DMC college and hospital, Ludhiana. She didn't want to end up as just another gynecologist, so she selected the field of infertility. Her sister also followed her footsteps and took up the medical profession. She is working as a successful dental surgeon.

She has many accolades to her credit. Although her achievements are innumerable, a few of them have been listed here-
- She had the honor of receiving the Vishist Chikistak award by Sri Swarna Ram, then technical education minister.
- Her excellence in the field of innovation and management was recognized and awarded by the former governor of Himachal Pradesh, V. S. Ramadevi.
- Her talent was recognized overseas is evident by the fact that she was selected for the Young Scientist Award in Rome Italy. This award is conferred by world association of reproductive medicine on people who show exemplary devotion to the field of ARP.
- She was chosen for the prestigious Award by the Indian Academy of Human Reproduction. She was presented with the award by none other than the president of the organization.
- She was chosen to be Awarded by the Health and family welfare minister of Punjab Sri Satpal Gosain for her unsurpassed contribution to the field of infertility and being the mastermind behind "north India's biggest baby show".
