Erysipeloid

Erysipeloid is an occupational disease of butchers, meat processors, farmers, poultry workers and fishermen.

The disease is caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, a Gram-positive facultative anaerobic rod that enters the body through skin injuries when working with a contaminated animal, products or soil.

The bacteria causes inflammatory skin lesions on the fingers or hands that itch and hurt.

Therapy[edit | edit source]

Penicillin can be given.
