Extra-intracranial anastomosis
From WikiLectures
EC-IC bypass is an anastomosis connecting one of the peripheral branches of a. cerebri media (ACI catchment basin = a. carotis interna) and a. temporalis superficialis (last branch of ACE = a. carotis externa ). The indication is complete occlusion of the internal carotid artery, most often caused by thrombosis of an artery affected by atherosclerosis.
