Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is a method that uses artificial membranes to remove retinated substances from plasma. This procedure requires extracorporeal circulation of blood. The blood is diverted by a blood pump to the dialysis unit itself (artificial kidney). The dialysis unit ensures the exact composition of the dialysate, isotonicity with the patient's blood and warming to body temperature. The blood, purified of toxic substances and metabolites, is returned to the patient.
