Hypertrichosis

From WikiLectures

Hypertrichosis

Hypertrichosis is an excessive growth of thicker, darker terminal hair shafts that does not correspond to the usual location, age or sex. The cause can be hormonal (hirsutism, hypertrichosis symptomatica after treatment with corticoids) or it is a congenital disease (hypertrichosis lanugiosa congenita). The therapy is primarily the removal of any endocrine cause, possibly epilation or diathermocoagulation.
