Lymph nodes and collectors of vagina, uterus and ovaries
Lymph nodes of the female reproductive system[edit | edit source]
Ovary[edit | edit source]
Lymphatic vessels run along the vasa ovarica and drain the lymph to the lumbar lymph nodes. Lumbar lymph nodes lie outside the small pelvis and are quite far from the ovaries. This fact must be thought of when searching for metastases of malignant tumors of the ovary.
Fallopian tube[edit | edit source]
The lymph drains into the lumbar lymph nodes.
Uterus[edit | edit source]
Lymph is drained from the womb in several directions. From the neck of the uterus it drains into the ``nodi lymphatici iliaci externi and the ``nodi lymphatici iliaci interni (one of them extended to the uterus, the nodus parauterinus, is clinically significant - the Bayer's node), and into the nodi lymphatici sacrales. Lymph from the lower part of the body of the uterus flows into the nodi lymphatici iliaci externi. From the upper part of the body of the uterus, including the uterine fundus, lymph drains along the vasa ovarica to the nodi lymphatici lumbales, from the area of the uterine horn along the ligaments. teres uteri to nodi lymphatici inguinales superficiales'.
Vagina[edit | edit source]
The lymph is drained mainly to the "nodi lymphatici iliaci interni" and "nodi lymphatici iliaci externi", from the most caudal part (at the hymen) to the "nodi lymphatici inguinales superficiales".
