Mallory-Weiss syndrome (password)

Mallory-Weiss syndrome occurs as a result of repeated and effortful vomiting (often after alcohol excess). It is bleeding that is caused by the formation of longitudinal tears in the mucosa of the esophagus in the area of the esophagogastric junction. There is no perforation of the entire wall of the esophagus, but only in the submucosa, where the blood and lymphatic plexuses are located.
At the beginning of vomiting, there is no blood, which only appears in subsequent portions of vomit (coffee grounds). In case of massive bleeding, it can manifest melena.
Bleeding is usually minor and does not require treatment.
