Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance

From WikiLectures

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are conditions in which the paraprotein is present in the serum in the absence of other signs typical for other monoclonal gammopathies (plasmacytoma, macroglobulinemia, amyloidosis). Serum paraprotein concentrations are up to 30 g / l and up to 10% of plasma cells in the bone marrow.

Clinical picture[edit | edit source]

The disease can be stable for many years and is not accompanied by severe organ damage (CRAB symptoms) - the disease is referred to as benign monoclonal gammopathy.

Progress[edit | edit source]

During a long-term development, the disease malignantly transforms into plasmacytoma, macroglobulinemia or amyloidosis in a quarter of patients.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Therapy is not necessary, patients are monitored regularly.
