Musculi lumbricales manus

Musculi lumbricales are 4 (I.-IV.). They are numbered from the thumb side of the hand and at the same time lie on the thumb side of the metacarpophalangeal joints.
Beginning:
- tendons musculus flexor digitorum profundus.
Attachment:
- the thumb edge of the aponeurosis of individual fingers;
- base of proximal joints of individual fingers.
Innervation:
- I., II., sometimes also III. muscle: nervus medianus;
- III., IV. muscle: nervus ulnaris (ramus profundus).
Function:
- flexion of the metacarpophalangeal joints;
- extension of interphalangeal joints;
- they bow their fingers radially.
