Omohyoid Muscle
From WikiLectures
Beginning: venter inferior – margo superior scapulae at the incisura scapulae (or lig. transversum scapulae superius).
Attachment: venter superior – the lower edge of the corpus ossis hyoidei.
Innervation: ansa cervicalis (profunda) C2–C3, ramus superior ansae cervicalis C1.
Function: retracts the uvula, stretching the cervical fascia thus helping to maintain the shape of the neck and the position of the internal structures. In the section covered by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, a flat tendon fused with the cervical fascia is inserted into the muscle. During neck movements, this tendon exerts a pull on the jugular vein, increasing blood flow in it.
