Pelentan

From WikiLectures

Pelentan (ethyl biscoumacetas) is a coumarin derivative that is used as an in vivo anti-clotting agent. It interferes with the natural vitamin K cycle and inhibits the production of coagulation factors in the liver that depend on vitamin K, i.e. prothrombin and coagulation factors VII, IX and X. Compared to Warfarin, Pelantan is more rapidly cleared from the bloodstream and therefore more frequent dosing is required. The Quick test is used to monitor the effect of Pelentan treatment.
