Phlebovirus

Rod Phlebovirus belongs to the family Bunyaviridae, which includes about 300 species of enveloped RNA-viruses with spiral symmetry. Representatives of this genus are exotic arboviruses (viruses transmitted by arthropods). Clinical signs range from brief febrile illness to fatal hemorrhagic fever. 68 different serotypes have been identified, most of which have not yet been described.

Species important for humans[edit | edit source]

  • Rift Valley fever virus – in Africa
  • group papatachi fever viruses – Neapolitan and Sicilian viruses, cause benign infections, healing after 2-4 days of fever
  • Toscana virus – related to the Neapolitan virus, in central Italy, causes aseptic meningitis to meningoencephalitis
  • Uukuniemi virus – of tick Ixodes ricinus, in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, rare human diseases
