Phosphorescence

From WikiLectures

Phosphorescence is a type of luminescence in which the luminescence continues significantly longer than fluorescence, practically longer than on the order of 10-2 s. The reason for the long duration of phosphorescence is that the electrons after excitation reach such energy levels from which they cannot easily return to base level, to the so-called metastable state.
