Pipkin's classification

The Pipkin classification divides femoral head fractures into types I–IV.


  • type I – the fracture is distal to the fovea capitis
  • type II – the fracture is proximal to the fovea capitis
  • type III – fracture of the head at the same time as fracture of the neck of the femuru
  • type IV – type I, II or III at the same time as an acetabular fracture
