Relative risk
From WikiLectures
Relative risk is an indicator describing the relationship between exposure to risk factor and health consequences. Determines the degree of association detected:
- RR = 1 means that the given factor has no influence on the development of the disease,
- RR > 1 means the exposure is a risk factor,
- RR < 1 means that the exposure is a protective factor.
Relative risk is expressed as a ratio of incidence of disease in the exposed and non-exposed group. It should be distinguished from odds ratio and absolute risk.
