Repolarization

Repolarization is the action potential phase that occurs after depolarization ends. During this phase, the membrane voltage value returns back to the initial (resting) value. The emergence of repolarization is conditioned by an increase in the permeability of the membrane for potassium, which is caused by the opening of voltage-controlled potassium channels. During repolarization, a potassium current flows out of the cell across the membrane.
