Spatium retrostyloideum

Spatium retrostyloideum s a topographic formation located behind the styloid septum.
Borders[edit | edit source]
- cranially - cranial base;
- caudally - trigonum caroticum;
- medially - spatium retropharyngeum;
- laterally - m. sternocleidomastoideus;
- ventrally - septum styloideum;
- dorsally - lamina prevertebralis fasciae cervicalis.

- v. jugularis interna,
- n. glossopharyngeus - n. IX.,
- n. vagus - n. X.,
- n. accessorius - n. XI.,
- n. hypoglossus - n. XII.,
- truncus symphaticus,
- ganglion cervicale superius,
- a. pharyngea ascendens.
Trigonum caroticum follows the spatium retrostyloideum in the caudal direction, it contains most of its contents.
