Stokes' law
From WikiLectures
During sedimentation, the particle is exposed to gravity (F g = mg = V ρ particle g) and buoyancy force according to Archimedes' law (F vz = V ρ liquid g). When the density of the particle is greater than the density of the liquid, the particle begins to sink .
Its movement is opposed by a resistance force , given by the Stokes relation:
- ,
- where r = radius of the particle, η = dynamic viscosity of the medium , v = velocity of the particle.
