Streptokinase
From WikiLectures
Streptokinase is a protein produced by β-hemolytic streptococcus. It is involved in the conversion of inactive plasminogen to active plasmin. Unlike urokinase, it has no direct activating effect on plasminogen, but first binds to a plasminogen molecule and then the entire streptokinase-plasminogen complex activates another plasminogen molecule to plasminogen. Streptokinase is used in clinical practice in the treatment of various manifestations Thromboembolic Disease.
