Thrombendarterectomy
From WikiLectures
Thrombendarterectomy (desobliteration) is one of the three basic surgical methods of reconstruction of the passage of the arteries.
- The thickened inner layer of the artery (intima and the part of the media on which the thrombus usually mounts) is removed .
- Purpose – expand the lumen, get a smooth surface, adjust the transition from the desobliterated part to the untreated area.
- Disadvantage:
- large thrombogenic surface;
- Due to that it is used for short obliterations with high flow – a. carotis, aorta, a. iliaca comm.
- Opened trombendarterectomy is the main method.
