Hematocrit (Hct) refers to the ratio of blood cell volume to total blood volume. [1]

This is a fact [2]

The physiological value for males is 0.40 - 0.54 and for females 0.37 - 0.47 [1]. A hematocrit above physiological values is an indication of polycythemia (also referred to as polyglobulia), whereas hematocrit lower than the physiological range is anemia. Fluctuations in the hematocrit can be due to hyperhydration, pregnancy etc. SILBERNAGL, Stefan – LANG, Florian, et al. Color Atlas of Pathophysiology. 2nd edition. 2010. Chapter 3: Blood. ISBN 978-3-13-116552-7.
