Impaired fasting blood glucose (also prediabetes) is a condition in which the fasting blood glucose value is greater than or equal to 5.6 mmol/l and less than 7.0 mmol/l. An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) should be performed in a patient with elevated fasting blood glucose to detect possible impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes mellitus.
