Adenoviruses

From WikiLectures

Template:Infobox - virus A group of viruses that attack cattle, dogs, horses, mice and birds in addition to humans. 41 human serotypes are known.[1]

The group is divided into two genera:

  • mastadenovirus,
  • aviadenovirus.

Virion[edit | edit source]

The virion is 70-90 nm large, resistant to ether, sensitive to chlorine and its derivatives.

Diseases[edit | edit source]

  1. Acute diseases of the respiratory tract – pharyngitis, fever, bronchitis, bronchopneumonia or pneumonia.
  2. Conjunctivitis – mostly in summer (possible water transfer).
  3. Diseases of the digestive system – mesenteric adenitis or diarrhea.

Pathogenesis[edit | edit source]

  • Gate of entry: mucous membranes of the respiratory and digestive tract, conjunctiva.

Diagnostics[edit | edit source]

  • Isolation – from the conjunctival sac, nasopharyngeal secretion, from urine on cell cultures;
  • ELISA.

Epidemiology[edit | edit source]

Virus spreads as droplet infection - secretions from infected mucous membranes. Less often through urine and faeces.
