Inflammatory pseudotumor
From WikiLectures
Inflammatory pseudotumor are tumors resembling swelling caused by edema and proliferation in inflamation. Inflammation can be both specific (tuberculomas, gummata), and nonspecific (post-inflammatory pseudoxanthoma in repair of purulent inflammation). When the inflammatory irritation ceases, proliferation ceases and the newly formed tissue organizes into a scar.
Another example is Schloffer's tumor – granuloma around foreign material (e.g. non-absorbable surgical sutures).
