The lacrimal bone belongs to the small, thin bones in the skull. It is placed in the inner wall of the orbital.

Anatomical Structures[edit | edit source]

The lacrimal bone is embedded in the ventral space of the skull in such a way that it contacts:

Due to its position, it looks laterally into the orbit and medially into the nasal cavity.

The lacrimal bone contains a pit for the lacrimal sac, fossa sacci lacrimalis, in the structure of the sulcus lacrimalis. The nasolacrimal duct continues from there.

Most common variations[edit | edit source]

Due to its size, the lacrimal bone can be completely absent. The nasolacrimal duct is thus formed by other bones.
