Transplantation
From WikiLectures
Transplantation refers to the transfer of tissues or whole organs.
- autotransplantation – transfer from the same individual; the greatest probability of permanent graft attachment
- alotransplantation (homotransplantation) – transfer from another individual of the same species
- xenotransplantation (heterotransplantation) – transfer from an individual of another species (e.g. pig skin)
- isotransplantation – transfer from a monozygotic, immunobiologically identical twin (equivalent to autotransplantation)
If we use a foreign material for the replacement, then it is alloplasty.
