Negative Bacitracin test without the zone of inhibition

The Bacitracin test is used to distinguish β-hemolytic streptococci. It can distinguish between Streptococcus pyogenes, which forms a zone of inhibition around the bacitracin disc, and Streptococcus agalactiae, which grows up to the disc.

Results:

  • Positive – Streptococcus pyogenes
  • Negative – Streptococcus agalactiae
