Catalase test

The catalase test determines the presence of the peroxidase enzyme in bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide is poured onto the colonies to be examined. If the bacteria produces this enzyme, it reacts with the hydrogen peroxide and oxygen bubbles appear.
Results:
- positive – Staphylococcus, Corynebacterium, Neisseria, Moraxella
- negative – Streptococcus, Arcanobacterium
