Bacitracin test

Negative bacitracin test without a zone of inhibition

Bacitracin susceptibility test is used to differentiate β-hemolytic streptococci. It is possible to distinguish between Streptococcus pyogenes, which creates a zone of inhibition around the disc with bacitracin, and Streptococcus agalactiae, which grows up to the disc.

Results:

  • positive – Streptococcus pyogenes
  • negative – Streptococcus agalactiae
